Dressed in camouflage, members of team ‘Fortress’ rush into combat, firing plastic pellets at each other. They are one of ten competitive airsoft clubs in the Bosnian territory of Zenica who fight in weekly matches. To sharpen their skills between battles, they run elaborate tactical drills, like this hostage rescue scenario. Just over 20 years ago, this was the site of battle during the Bosnian War; that’s something these players take to heart. Coming from different religions and nationalities, many of these men would likely have been fighting on opposing sides.
